Edcamp HV 2016: Two weeks to go!

Greetings Edcampers!

We’re only two weeks away from Edcamp Hudson Valley! All of the organizers have been busy preparing for an exciting day of learning and sharing. Below are few new pieces of information and reminders:

1) Latest News: As 8/29 gets closer, you will see our site (www.edcamphudsonvalley.org) transform into an information hub. Note: The same resources that we post on the site (map of session sites, schedule template, important links, etc.) will also be provided to you when you register the day of the event.

2) Wait List: Have your plans changed for the 29th? Please let us know! We have individuals who would like to attend that are on our waiting list. Thank you (they thank you too)!

3) Building a Community of Learners:  If you have not done so already, please fill out the “Introduce Yourself” survey at: http://edcamphudsonvalley.org/about-edcamp-2/introduce-yourself/.

Note: Respondents will get an extra raffle ticket, so make sure you ask a staff member for your ticket on 8/29! If you are interested in seeing the responses of other Edcampers, please click here: http://bit.ly/edcamphvintro

This will help you get to know your fellow Edcamp Hudson Valley attendees. Thank you so much to those who have already filled out the survey!

4) Edcamp Day Info:

  • Check-in will be between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Monday, 8/29. Registration will take place in the lobby as soon as you enter the building. Volunteers will be there to direct and assist you.
  • Opening introduction will start at 9 a.m.
  • The sessions will take place through the PDS building (a map will be provided upon entrance to the event). All of the rooms will have projectors. Note to presenters: Computers will NOT be provided, so bring your devices and dongles/adapters (if needed).
  • Your FREE lunch (thanks to Edcamp HV sponsors) will be served in the dining room.
  • Edcamp HV volunteers (wearing black/white baseball STAFF t-shirts) will be around to help you find your way.
  • Poughkeepsie Day School has campus wide Wi-Fi access. Feel free to bring a laptop, tablet or smartphone that has internet access. This will allow you to check all of the online resources shared throughout the day. If you’re on Twitter, use #edcampHV!
  • A full map of session sites will be posted on edcamphudsonvalley.org. A copy will be placed in your welcome registration folder. The wifi username and password will be on the map.

5) Session Ideas and Volunteers: Edcamps are unlike traditional conferences where the complete schedule is planned in advance. Instead, the schedule at Edcamp is participant driven and created the day of the event. In order to help start off the day on the 29th, we are looking for anyone who is interested in leading/facilitating a topic discussion or learning session during the first time slot (9:40 – 10:40). Please email us at edcamphv@gmail if you are interested.

6) Questions?  Feel free to send any questions to edcamphv@gmail.com, leave us a comment on our Facebook page, or tweet us at @edcamphv. Have a wonderful day and we look forward to seeing you in a few weeks!

Sincerely,

The Edcamp Hudson Valley Organizers

Edcamp HV, less than a month away!

Dear Edcamp Hudson Valley participants,

August is here! Since Edcamp Hudson Valley is less than a month away, here’s what you need to know:

Spread the word

We already have over one hundred people registered, but we would love to get even more educators signed up. Retweet announcements (http://twitter.com/edcampHV), share/like Facebook posts (https://www.facebook.com/edcamphudsonvalley) and let your friends and colleagues know about this great event (http://edcamphudsonvalley.org)!

Feel free to present or lead a discussion (session board examples)

Edcamp is even more amazing when you participate in the sharing and learning! Is there a great lesson plan or unit that worked with your students? Are you a master of classroom management? Is there a great tech tool that you would love to talk about? Do you want to have a thoughtful discussion with your colleagues about shifts that are happening in education today?

Make sure to “Introduce Yourself” and check out the list of others who are attending! This is a great way to share your educational interests! (http://edcamphudsonvalley.org/about-edcamp-2/introduce-yourself/)

Thanks to our gracious host, Poughkeepsie Day School, each room for presenters will have a projector and a Smartboard. There is also an auditorium and dance space, if needed. We also have WiFi, so bring your laptops, mobile devices and tablets!

Are you ready for a Smackdown?

If you want to share a tool, website or teaching trick, bring it to the Smackdown! Each person will get two minutes to present their idea. You might even get a nice thank you gift for sharing.

Bring an appetite

Breakfast will be provided by Table Talk Diner and Bagel World.

Lunch will be provided by Pizzeria Bacio, Admiral’s Pizza and Uno’s Pizzeria.

Get ready to win!

Local and tech businesses have generously donated great door prizes for our Edcampers. A huge thank you goes out to the TEG Credit Union, Arlington Teachers’ Association, Press4Kids, Sage Nail and Spa, Twisted Soul, Poughkeepsie Crossfit, Flocabulary, The Crooked Rooster, Voki and Starbucks!

We are so excited about Edcamp Hudson Valley and are working hard to make it the best one yet! Spread the word and see you on the 25th!
